classic pancake recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • .5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter or vegetable oil
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional: Additional butter or oil for cooking
Instructions
  1. Prepare the Batter:In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, melted butter or oil, and vanilla extract if using, until thoroughly combined. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently mix until just combined. It's okay if the batter is slightly lumpy.
  2. Preheat Griddle or Pan:Preheat a griddle or non-stick pan over medium heat. If using a pan, add a small amount of butter or oil and spread it evenly.
  3. Cook Pancakes:Pour about 1/4 cup of batter onto the preheated griddle or pan for each pancake. Cook until bubbles form on the surface and the edges start to look set, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Flip Pancakes:Carefully flip the pancakes with a spatula and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through
  5. Serve:Transfer the cooked pancakes to a plate and serve immediately with your favorite toppings such as maple syrup, fresh fruit, whipped cream, or chocolate chips.
  6. Yield:

This recipe makes approximately 8-10 medium-sized pancakes, serving 2-4 people depending on appetite and serving size. Adjust the quantities accordingly if you need more or fewer pancakes. Enjoy your homemade pancakes!
